Our online shop
We are especially proud of one thing - our online shop, which is the result of our daily work. On the way to becoming one of Europe's largest online retailer, we rely on state-of-the-art technologies that further our online business.
Since 2008, we have been running our Java in-house development in Germany. Ever since, we continue to develop its features and functionalities internationally, steered by current customer needs and market trends. In addition to the Java in-house development, we use an SAP Hybris platform that covers many essential areas of the e-commerce environment and is used in the opening of other international online shops.
A team of seasoned professionals carries out monthly releases which set the pace, so that we can fully leverage the possibilities of Agile software development. A modern software architecture using and introducing up-to-date frameworks offers every developer the opportunity to contribute to the success of the online shop.
The Lidl app is used in 27 countries and more than 33 million users per month. It is developed in-house since 2010 and it runs on iOS, Android and Windows, being constantly advanced and equipped with new features.
Our mobile backend manages to connect twelve systems and to provide their functionality via interfaces of the Lidl app. Our developers work SCRUM based and romp with JAVA, PHP, Kotlin, Objective-C, Swift, C # and Java Script. We are testing new ways of working, such as a Microservice architecture, to run fast releases in small independent teams. New technologies such as Docker, AngularJS 2 and TypeScript are also used in the development process.
Logistics meets technology
Logistics is a central element to our business. The implementation of new warehouse concepts and openings results in technical requirements that are mastered across departments and mapped in many places via SAP EWM. But further developments, which concern the increasing automation of processes or new logistics locations, are exciting challenges that our teams face every day.
At present, our customers can order over 30 000 different products from the Lidl online shop, oftentimes even from abroad. For our logistics team the on-time delivery of our customers, also internationally, is in the center. That is why we develop new warehouse concepts and open new locations. Currently we are expanding our network of warehouses across Europe, opening new sites in Germany, the Netherlands and the Czech Republic.
